How to Apply
Application Information
The International Union of Operating Engineers Local #103 Apprenticeship is a 6,000 hour on-the-job training and classroom program. It is free to apprentices by support of union members.

To begin with, you earn 75% of journeyman wage while on the job with incremental pay advances of 5% at 2,000, 4,000, and 5,000 hours.

Pension begins immediately and medical coverage begins with four months and 400 hours.

To apply, you must be 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and a high school education or equivalent.

The application and questionnaire must be completed on site and takes approximately 45 minutes.

A selection process begins in the spring of each year. If you meet the minimum requirement on the questionnaire you will be invited to attend an interview with a union member and a contractor. Once you complete the interview, your combined questionnaire and interview score will remain on a call list for two years. If during the two years you are called, the next step is to pass a drug screen and attend a pre-entrance, 40-hour, on-site training session in which you will be evaluated on several aspects of the industry and learn basic safety and equipment maintenance. Upon successful completion, your name will be placed on the out-of-work board with our local union office for job placement. No one will be asked to quit any current jobs until they have been called by the local union office to go to work.

Applications accepted Monday-Friday in our office only from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The office is closed for lunch between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
